Tales2Go…At Home!

In the few short weeks since we launched Tales2Go, we’ve heard from parents and kids telling us how much they enjoy audio stories.  Children love listening in the car.  But, our listeners have shared some neat ways to enjoy audio stories at home:

At the Dinner Table – A good friend played a story for her girls one night during dinner.  “Amazingly, they all sat quietly, engrossed in the story, and happily ate their dinner.  At the end, not a vegetable was left on the plate!  Anything that gets my girls to eat their vegetables is a miracle!”

During Bath Time – Another friend discovered Tales2Go is great during bath time. “With two little boys in the bathtub, there’s always a splashing contest waiting to happen.  But with Tales2Go, the boys play calmly while listening to the story.  Bath time is so civilized and relaxing now.”

Two Boys, Two Bedtimes
- Before Tales2Go, my neighbor’s bedtime routine for her two boys was stressful since her boys are several years apart in age, have different reading levels, and compete for “alone” time with mom.  And she loves to read to them separately, but often, the boys would interrupt the other’s special reading time.  Mom realized one night that if she let one child listen to Tales2Go while she read to the other, bedtime was much happier.   She said, “Thank you Tales2Go. You’ve simplified my life!”

We love to hear these “stories about stories” and are happy to hear that Tales2Go is fun in lots of places, not just the car!  We love the stories we’ve heard, and want to hear yours!

Welcome to Tales2Go!

January 18, 2010 Good Listening by William and Tracey

Welcome to Tales2Go!  This is our first blog entry on our new website.  Here, we will share news and events of the company so you’ll be up-to-date on the latest developments at Tales2Go.  In the coming weeks and months, we will be adding to our library of great kids’ stories, signing on other trusted audio publishers and renowned storytellers who couldn’t make the launch!  We expect to exceed 1,000 stories within weeks.

Our blog will also be a source of great ideas for age-appropriate books and stories and suggestions for sanity-saving Tales2Go uses.  We hope to provide you with insights on great listening experiences for you and your kids; and hope you’ll join in on the conversation and share your ideas and favorites with us.

To start us off, we’d like to share an article from Scholastic’s Parent & Child Magazine on the benefits of listening to audio stories: The Literacy Benefits of Listening

Here are some quick highlights from the article:

  • Listening to audio stories enriches your child’s multi-sensory experiences with books
  • Audio books give children an important introduction to listening
  • The listening process emphasizes reading as a source of entertainment and pleasure, and makes children more eager to learn how to read
  • The more kids listen, the more likely they are to learn new vocabulary words.

And, to add our two cents, listening to stories is fun!  This, plus many of the above reasons, drove us – as parents ourselves – to take the plunge and start Tales2Go.  We hope you and your family will take part!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, comments or suggestions about Tales2Go.  We welcome your ideas!

So sit back, relax and enjoy a good story…
