What is Tales2Go?

A: Tales2Go is an award-winning subscription kids’ audio story service/app that gives parents and caregivers instant, on-demand and unlimited access to over a thousand audio stories from leading publishers and storytellers which can be played for kids played for kids in the classroom, car, at home or on-the-go.

Why should I subscribe?

Tales2Go gives teachers and parents instant and unlimited access to over a thousand name-brand audio stories from leading publishers and storytellers in two convenient plans: monthly recurring, or save and buy a year in advance. Teachers know that listening to audio stories is an excellent pathway to becoming a skilled reader, since listening to stories exposes kids to vocabulary, builds critical listening and comprehension skills and generally excites kids about literature.  For these reasons and others, Teachers use audio books in the classroom.

Can I use Tales2Go on my iPod Touch or iPad?

Yes, you can use Tales2Go on an iPod Touch and iPad with a WiFi connection, or with a carrier signal on an iPad.  You can also begin listening to a story in WiFi and then take it with you - beyond a signal area - if you allow the story or chapter to 'cache' on the device (i.e. the blue buffering indicator will tell you when a story has been cached on the device - normally seconds or up to a minute depending on the strength of your signal and/or the length of the story or chapter).  In the future, we expect to introduce enhanced caching to allow users to take multiple stories beyond a signal area.

How do I start listening to Tales2Go?

  1. Install Tales2Go to your iPhone, iPad or iPod through the  App Store. When you select the Tales2Go icon on the  home screen you will be directed to a list of story navigation choices:
  • Publisher
  • Age
  • Grade
  • Genre
  • Most listened to
  • Title

After making a few decisions about the kind of story you and your kid(s) would like to listen to, a list of stories will be generated based on your criteria.

  • The story will play through your Apple iOS device when you click on the story of your choice.
  • Add a story to your Favorites by selecting the star icon directly above the volume bar in the player.
  • Access your Favorites by selecting the starred Favorites icon in the navigation bar at the bottom of the story list.
  • When you are done listening to a story, the player automatically plays the next story on the list.
  • If you want to go back to the list of stories, press "Back" in the upper left  corner of the screen while a story is playing or when you are finished listening.

What are the minimum requirements to run Tales2Go on my iPhone?

Tales2Go works on all iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads with an iOS of 3.1.3 or later.

Can I look for new stories while a current selection is playing?

Yes, you can browse the list of stories your initial navigation choices generated while you are still playing a previously loaded story.

How do I pause?

The volume bar is the horizontal bar at the bottom of the player. Drag the icon on the bar or press a point on the volume bar to set the volume as desired. Volume can only go as high as the current volume settings on your iPhone allow. Change the volume settings on your iPhone to enable Tales2Go to play at a greater volume.

Can I listen to Tales2Go using my Bluetooth headset?

You can listen to Tales2Go over your stereo (A2DP) Bluetooth headset on an iPhone running OS 3.0 or later. We do not support listening to Tales2Go over a mono (HFP) Bluetooth headset. Due to current limitations from Apple, the audio controls on the stereo Bluetooth headset cannot be used to control the Tales2Go player.

How do I find and listen to a story again?

The best way to find and replay a story is to search for the story using the search function. Because there are hundreds of stories on Tales2Go, and finding new stories is important, navigation choices will not always produce the same list of stories.

What are the extra controls that I see when playing some stories?

While most stories are saved in a single file, there are some longer stories that are saved in multiple parts or chapters. For these stories, we play each part separately. The duration bar only reflects the current part that is playing. When the end of one part is reached, the next part will load. When the end of the final part is reached, the next story in the playlist is loaded. The extra controls allow you to move back and forth among the chapters.

How can I load a specific part of a story with multiple parts?

When you first load a story with multiple parts or chapters, the first part of the story will load and start playing. Once the player is loaded, you can quickly move to another segment.

How does resume work?

By default, if you close the Tales2Go application while playing a story, Tales2Go will remember what story you were listening to and where you are in the story! The next time you launch Tales2Go, it will automatically load the story you were listening to and resume to the same point in the story, so you don't have to seek and find it manually.

How do I turn off resume?

If you don't want Tales2Go to resume, there are two ways to turn it off. To make it not resume the story you are currently playing, press pause and then close Tales2Go. Tales2Go will not resume a story that was paused. To permanently turn off resume, visit Settings and click on "Upon App Launch". Select "Story Station List" for this setting. Tales2Go will never resume on startup when this is selected.

What is the difference between choosing a station by Topic vs. Source?

You can browse and listen to stories either by topic, such as age, grade, talent, most listened, highly rated, etc., or by Publisher source, such as Scholastic, Recorded Books, etc. This makes browsing for and finding the stories you want faster and easier. When on the station list, you can switch between Topics and Sources using the buttons at the top of the list.

How do I search for specific stories and content?

Use the "search" button located on right side of the navigation bar, located at the bottom the station list. In the search field, input either the title of the story you are looking for or keywords associated with the content you want. You can listen to your desired story by pressing the story name and add it to your Favorites if you like what you hear.

How do I customize my story lists?

There are several ways to customize your story lists:

  1. Just listen! Tales2Go takes your listening preferences and patterns into account when you listen and customizes your story lists accordingly without any work on your part.
  2. Use the thumbs-down or thumbs-up icons in the player. Using these icons while a story is playing allows Tales2Go to learn your preferences and arrange the stories in your story lists accordingly.

Can I change my rating?

Once you've rated a story, you cannot change your selection until you close and restart the application.

Why do certain stories end up first in my story list?

Tales2Go's algorithm uses station keywords and your listening patterns to determine how relevant stories within that story list are to your navigation filters and your interests. The most relevant stories appear first.

What is the information in the settings page used for?

The settings page allows existing users to see or modify their user profile information. You can go to your settings and change your email, password, and phone number. How do I use Tales2Go as an alarm clock?

Enable the Alarm in Tales2Go Settings. At the scheduled time, Tales2Go will start playing your Favorites stories.

Why didn’t my Favorites start playing at the scheduled alarm time?

For the Alarm to function properly, Tales2Go must be left running and your iPhone must be plugged in. Of course, you must have stories in your Favorites area, and the volume must be at an adequate level to hear it.

I’m having trouble playing Tales2Go over my car speakers.

Most recent year/make cars have an “auxiliary” button on the car radio.  This means there is an audio jack in your car (often found in the glove compartment or on the lower dashboard of the car).  Purchase an audio cable and plug one end into your phone and the other into the car audio jack.  You’re in business.  If your car does not have an audio jack, you can purchase portable speakers or pass the phone back to your kids to use with headphones.

How do I subscribe after the trial period?

After your initial 30-day free trial, you can complete a purchase of a subscription from within the app by clicking on 'more' button at the bottom of the home screen of the app, then 'settings' and finally 'subscription' - and then following the on-screen instructions

Can I operate more than one device (e.g., iPhone or iPad) on one account/subscription?

Yes, you can operate up to five devices per account/subscription.  See details and instructions in the “Account/Devices Info” article.

How do I manage more than 5 simultaneous users on Tales2Go

A. You can have five simultaneous users share a Tales2Go account, e.g., Mom's iPhone, Dad's iPad and each kids' iPod Touch.  To activate multiple users, click on the 'Log-In' button (found within the 'More' section of the home screen) and provide an email address and password to create an account and/or log-in multiple users.  You must create an account in order to share that account with multiple users, i.e. we group simultaneous users under a common email address and password.
